High-purity pseudoboetraite is the precursor of high-purity alumina production. Europe and America and other developed countries have done a lot of research on its preparation technology and application, and have entered the stage of large-scale production. Its technology is far ahead of other countries and is at the leading level in the world.
In our country, there are many enterprises producing pseudoboetraxite, and many scientific research institutes have carried out research on different preparation methods of pseudoboetraxite. Among them, the methods with industrial application value mainly include alcohol-brine hydrolysis, thermal decomposition of aluminum ammonium sulfate and thermal decomposition of aluminum ammonium carbonate. The high purity alumina prepared by alcohol-brine hydrolysis method has high purity, but the cost is relatively high. The high-purity alumina obtained by the thermal decomposition method of aluminum ammonium sulfate is more economical in cost, and the operation process is simple and convenient, but the purity can not meet the requirements, and the sulfur dioxide is also polluted the atmosphere. The thermal decomposition of aluminum ammonium carbonate and aluminum ammonium sulfate process yield is not much, the performance of high-purity alumina produced is not much difference, but the thermal decomposition of aluminum ammonium carbonate will not produce sulfur dioxide to pollute the atmosphere.
Because most enterprises in our country pursue low cost and large-scale, most of the research work focuses on the production and research and development of low-end (purity less than 3N) quasi-boetraite and its follow-up products, which leads to the heavy dependence on imports of high-end SB powder in our country. Although the domestic China Petrochemical Corporation Stone Science Institute, Guizhou University and other units have also carried out research on the preparation of high-purity pseudobotraite, due to insufficient research work, domestic SB powder cannot enter the high-end market due to the lack of quality indicators such as purity, microstructure and particle size, and it is difficult to meet the high-end market demand.
