The Role Of Alumina Catalyst Support
Dec 10, 2022
Generally, the catalyst support with appropriate physical and chemical properties should be selected according to the actual requirements of the chemical reaction, such as the mechanical strength, density, pore structure, particle size and shape of the catalyst support.
A good catalyst carrier should have at least the following conditions: ① the shape and size suitable for the specific reaction; ② with sufficient mechanical strength; ③ It can provide sufficient specific surface area and suitable pore structure for the catalyst; ④ it has sufficient chemical and thermal stability; ⑤ Wide source of raw materials, low manufacturing cost; ⑥ can be compatible with the active components, so that the catalyst activity is good; ⑦ No increase in side reactions, low impurity content; ⑧ Improve the heat resistance of the catalyst.
The reason why alumina carrier is widely used is that alumina carrier has a series of excellent characteristics, including: ① high melting point of alumina and good thermal stability; ② There are both acidic and basic centers on the surface of alumina support, which makes it have a variety of catalyst properties. ③ There are a variety of transition phases in alumina support, and its crystal phase and pore structure are diverse, and its selectivity is wide.
Alumina support is commonly used in all hydrodesulfurization catalyst carriers. Among the various transition phases of alumina support, γ-Al2O3 has large porosity, specific surface area, better mechanical strength and more suitable surface acidity, which makes it a good choice for hydrodesulfurization catalyst support.
