What Is Alumina

Apr 01, 2022

Alumina is a high hardness compound.

Alumina is a high temperature resistant material. Its function is to make Ruby and sapphire. Another function is to make aluminum by electrolysis. The last function is to smelt metal aluminum. Alumina materials have a wide range of uses, which can not be described too much by the phrase "alumina is everywhere". Due to the progress of preparation technology, alumina has obtained a variety of morphologies, such as spherical, hexagonal flake, cube, cylinder, fiber, flower, curl and so on.

Purpose:

Aluminum is a good conductor of electricity and heat, while alumina is an insulator of electricity and heat. Alumina crystal form corundum is suitable for grinding materials and cutting tools because of its high hardness.

It can be used for emergency braking device of high-speed railway train (spraying alumina powder on the rail to increase rail friction); Porous alumina with high specific surface area is called activated alumina, which is often used as catalyst, adsorbent, dehydrator and catalyst carrier.
